What’s the difference between a single barrell and a double barrell softball bat from a performance standpoint

How can I tell if my softball bat is broken?

I have a 2-yr old Demarini slowpitch bat, and while there are no visible cracks some teammates have commented on the sound it makes, saying it might be broken/dead. I’m not a consistent enough hitter to really notice a performance difference (that I can definitely blame on the bat, at least). Any thoughts on what I can test/check for to see if it’s time for a replacement?
